A MAN arrested in connection with a fatal accident at Shelley has been released on bail.

A 29-year-old man from Shelley is due to return to Huddersfield police station on February 27 while police make further inquiries.

They are still appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Nineteen-year-old pedestrian Caroline Hampshaw, of Stocks Way, Shepley, died in the accident.

It is believed she got off a bus and was walking along Penistone Road when she was in the accident with a Honda Civic near the junction with Cleveland Way at 9.30pm on Sunday night.

Caroline, a hairdresser, was killed instantly.

Pc Andy Prescott, of Huddersfield road traffic department, has appealed for witnesses to the accident.

He also wants to hear from the bus driver or anyone who was on the bus to contact him on 01484 436847.

An inquest into Miss Hampshaw's death is due to open in Huddersfield tomorrow.

The accident happened near where Mary Carruthers, of Bankfield, Shelley, was killed in an accident with a car in December, 2000.
