POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a crash that left a Dewsbury woman fighting for her life.

The 51-year-woman had to be airlifted to hospital after her car was crushed by an articulated lorry.

The smash happened on the A638 Halifax Road at its junction with Staincliffe Hall Road in Dewsbury on Monday afternoon between her Ford Mondeo and a HGV lorry.

The collision took place near the Butcher’s Arms pub in an area controlled by temporary traffic lights, when the HGV had been travelling along Halifax Road from Heckmondwike towards Dewsbury.

The woman, who has not been named, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary by the Yorkshire Air Ambulance with serious injuries and is described as being in a “critical” condition.
