DETECTIVES are continuing their probe after gun cartridges discovered in a Huddersfield street sparked a major investigation.

Offices now believe at least one shot may have been fired in the street.

Detectives discovered five shell casings on Whitestone Lane in Hillhouse on Wednesday – 24 hours after reports of a disturbance there.

The road was sealed off all night on Wednesday and well into yesterday morning.

Several people were involved in the disturbance on Whitestone Lane at round 5pm on Tuesday, but no-one is thought to have been hurt and no-one was arrested.

Following further investigations, shortly after 4pm on Wednesday, police returned and the road was cordoned off.

A heavy police presence was noticed by thousands of people passing by on busy Bradford Road as forensic experts carried out a detailed search for evidence.

Seven small yellow evidence markers could be seen on the road and another on a nearby wall.

Police confirmed they had recovered a number of cartridges from the area.

A police spokesman said: “The road was cordoned off until 10.30am yesterday and the incident is now being investigated.”
