A DRAMATIC police chase across Huddersfield ended at Honley last night.

Officers in cars and vans and the West Yorkshire Police helicopter joined the pursuit of two suspected burglars in a car.

They had followed the black Citroen for several miles, through residential streets and country lanes, before it finally stopped at Honley.

Police arrested one teenager close to the vehicle, but the search for a second youth was continuing late into the evening.

The drama – the third police chase in the Huddersfield area in a week – began in Dalton.

A resident in Greenhead Avenue, off Greenhead Lane, rang 999 to report youths acting suspiciously close to a house in the quiet cul-de-sac.

The pair fled and drove off in a black Citroen car.

A police spokesman said: “The caller suggested that the pair looked very young, perhaps too young to be driving.

“The police helicopter was called in to join the search for the car, along with a number of police patrols”

The car was then seen heading through Almondbury towards Castle Hill and then headed down Northgate and Station Road towards Honley.

The occupants abandoned the car close to the Neiley playing fields off New Mill Road, used by Honley High School students.

Police teams with dogs were at the scene within minutes and one youth was detained.

A search for the second youth was being concentrated in the grounds and woods close to Honley High School.

Last Wednesday, two people were hurt when a BMW crashed near Grange Moor after a police chase from Wakefield.

And hours later, a man fled on foot after eluding police in a pursuit which began at Longroyd Bridge and ended in Gledholt with a crash into another car.
