A hunt has been launched to find a Huddersfield University student who suddenly disappeared yesterday.

Newsome teen Gloria Maina, 19, was last seen at 11.30am on Friday as she left the university's main campus.

When last seen, the logistics and supply chain management student was walking in the direction of Queensgate and was wearing a black jacket (possibly leather), a scarf, dark trousers, brown knee high boots and carrying a black rucksack.

She is described as 5'0" tall, black and of slim build.

West Yorkshire Police have begun an investigation into her disappearance.

Detective Inspector Stef Wiseman of Kirklees CID, said: "This is completely out of character for Gloria and I would appeal to her directly or to anyone who sees her to call police urgently on 101."

Friends of the student, who lives on Tunnacliffe Road and comes from Walsall, have also appealed to the community via social media to help find her.

One, Ellie Langdon, who posted on her own and Gloria's Facebook page, said: "It is now over 24 hours since she disappeared.

"She hasn't been active on Facebook since 12pm.

" We have been trying to contact her since 2pm with her phone going straight to voicemail.

"If anyone has any information of her whereabouts please contact us or West Yorkshire police ASAP. I have tagged people from the huddersfield area and home.

"Please could you all share this so we can hopefully get Gloria recognised across as many places as possible. Thanks for helping us get our best friend home."
