Police have confirmed that the body of a man found in the River Calder in Dewsbury yesterday morning is that of missing man Daniel France from Dewsbury.

His family has been informed and enquiries into the circumstances of his death are ongoing.

Police were called to Sands Lane, Dewsbury, at 11.37am on Wednesday after reports that a body had been seen in the water.

He was pulled from the water by fire and ambulance crews working from both Sands Lane and Mill Street East.

Police took away a tent which had been put up on the banks of the river.

Mr France, 38, had last been seen at his home in Ravensthorpe on Saturday, March 12.

His death is the fourth in rivers and canals in the area in little over three weeks but there are no links between any of the deaths.

A teenager died in a canal in Huddersfield and a 77-year-old man died after being pulled from a canal at Thornhill Lees.

On Good Friday, a man who has yet to be identified was recovered from the River Calder at Mirfield.
