POLICE have cracked the case of a man who had reportedly tried to lure three young girls into a van.

The man approached the 12-year-olds in Netherthong at about 8.30am on Thursday, May 15, as they were on their way to Holmfirth High School

The incident – in which the man asked the girls if they wanted a lift – happened about a mile from the school, which is in Thongsbridge.

But they ran off and the police were told. The Valleys Neighbourhood Policing Team, which covers the Holmfirth area, carried out inquiries into the incident.

Police have now revealed that the investigation led to a Holme Valley man in his late 70s.

Insp Mark Trueman, of the team, said the man had been spoken to and it seemed he had not intended anything sinister by his actions.

The inspector added that the girls’ parents had been told the outcome of the case.

He added: “Any incident of this nature is treated seriously and investigated fully.”
