MORE than 250 people have been arrested so far as all four police forces in Yorkshire work together in a month-long campaign.

Operation Maximum Impact sees police in West, South and North Yorkshire and Humberside joining in a series of co-ordinated operations throughout February.

One main aim is to catch prolific offenders who travel to commit their offences.

Rural parts of Huddersfield have traditionally been a target for these thieves, especially car criminals and burglars.

South Yorkshire thieves tend to target the Denby Dale and Dearne Valley areas, while thieves from Greater Manchester are known to concentrate on the Colne Valley.

West Yorkshire Assistant Chief Constable David Crompton said: “Criminals don’t recognise county boundaries.

“Maximum Impact is about sending a clear message to criminals throughout the region that we are working with our colleagues.’’

One man arrested in West Yorkshire for burglary has confessed to 30 other crimes.
