A YOUNG man has been shot in Fartown.

The 24-year-old, who is from Huddersfield, was fired at just after midnight yesterday.

The incident is thought to have happened in the area of a snicket between Alder Street and Ashmere Grove.

The man suffered face and neck injuries, but they are not life threatening.

Police said this morning that five men were in custody over the incident.

Det Insp Sam Cooke, of Huddersfield CID, urges anyone who saw or heard anything to come forward.

He said: "This is quite a built-up area.

"Anybody who heard a gunshot or saw someone leaving the scene - whether on foot or in a car - should get in touch immediately."
