Police are hunting a man who fired a shot through the front door of a Dewsbury home.

Officers stress that it was a targeted attack and the public should not be unduly alarmed.

Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Snow said: "At around 9pm, on Saturday,  November 8, we were called to reports of a firearm discharge at Burgh Mill Gardens in Dewsbury

"At the scene we discovered that a firearm had been shot through the front door of a domestic property. The house was occupied at the time but no-one was injured.

"Early indications suggest that this was an isolated incident, involving one suspect, who specifically targeted this address.

"Our enquiries are ongoing and efforts continue to locate and identify the person responsible. "I would like to reassure members of the local community that there is no risk to the general public following this incident.

"However, we understand the impact that any discharge of a firearm has on the community and on feelings of personal safety so we have increased visible patrols in the area and are happy to speak with anyone who has any specific concerns.

"We are also keen to hear from anyone who can assist with our investigation.

"If anybody witnessed this incident or has any information that might help to identify the suspect please get in touch with us on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on  0800 555111 ."
