A woman fought off a gang of men who tried to force their way into her Huddersfield home in the early hours.

She had answered a knock at her door at 1.30am this morning and found a man trying to force his way in.

She resisted and the man fled along with three other males.

They escaped in a car after the incident in Springdale Street, Thornton Lodge, leaving the woman unhurt but badly shaken.

Det Insp Andy Leonard, of Huddersfield CID, said: “She had been asleep in bed when she heard knocking.

“As she opened the door the man tried to burst in but she was able to use her body to block him and shut the door.

“He was with three others and they all drove off in a small dark-coloured saloon car.

“It was an incident which left her badly shaken”.

Police are hunting four white or possibly Eastern European men in their late 20s. All were of average build.

They have urged witnesses to contact them via 101.
