POLICE are hunting a man who failed to appear before the courts in connection with the death of a dog in Cleckheaton.

Gary Dennis Marshman, 26, of Buttershaw, is charged with the theft of a dog outside a supermarket on Northgate on Friday, January 16, last year.

The body of the dog was discovered two days later in a beck at the Mann Dam on Sunday, January 18.

Marshman failed to appear before Batley and Dewsbury Magistrates’ Court on March 24 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Officers have been making extensive inquiries to trace him and believe him to be in the Bradford area.

Marshman is also known to use the surnames of Smith or Gale.

Officers are asking for the public’s help to locate him or for him to make contact with police.

Insp Tim Holland, of Spenborough Neighbourhoood Policing Team, said:

“We do still believe him to be in the Bradford area and it is important we find him so he can appear before the courts.”
