Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist died in a collision in Brighouse.

They want to hear from anyone who saw the incident on Thursday afternoon.

The incident occurred at 1.20pm on Elland Road, near Cromwell Bottom, and involved a black Citroen C5 and a bicycle.

The cyclist is understood to be a 55-year-old man. He suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead a short time later.

A 57-year-old man, from Brighouse, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Det Sgt Carole Greaves, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision itself, the manner of driving of the Citroen C5 immediately prior to this collision or the route and manner that the bicycle was being ridden.

“Anyone with information is asked to call the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101.”
