A gun-toting robber with a ‘European’ accent who held up a convenience store is being hunted by police.

The robbery took place at Rupyal Superstore in Hanover Street, Westtown, Dewsbury, at around 8.20pm yesterday.

The masked raider, armed with what appeared to be a black handgun, approached the counter and said: “Give me all of the money out of the till.

He added: “I’m not messing about. This is a real gun.”

The robber then grabbed £160 in cash and ran off.

The man is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 5ft 11in tall, of medium build and with a ‘European’ accent.

The suspect was wearing a navy blue short sleeved sports top over a hooded jumper.

He was also wearing dark bottoms and a black facial covering.

The shop worker was left shaken but uninjured.

Police would like to speak to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously outside the store or was seen running from the scene.

Det Insp Ian Thornes, of Kirklees CID, said: “Obviously the victim was shaken up by the incident.

“It was a Saturday night and it could have been quite busy at the time.

“There was also a member of the public in the store.

“There was probably a person waiting around for a quiet time in the shop before he went in.

“Then he’s run away so someone will have probably seen something.”
