Police are hunting a sex attacker who grabbed a teenage girl on a Huddersfield footbridge.

The man, bearded and 6ft 4in tall, approached the 16-year-old as she crossed the bridge from Colne Road to Damside Road on the edge of Huddersfield town centre.

The bridge crosses the River Colne in an area well-populated by students.

Det Insp Mark Walker, of Kirklees CID, said the man approached the girl and grabbed her by the arm, spinning her round.

He then touched her breast but the girl pulled free and fled.

The girl ran off and was seen by a man walking his dog, who asked if she was okay. Police want to trace the man who may have vital information about the attacker.

The attack happened at 4.45pm on Friday and police have appealed for information.

Det Insp Walker said: “The girl was seen running away in a distressed state and she was asked if she was okay by the man walking his dog. We would very much like to speak to this dog walker or anyone else who has any information.”

The teenager was shocked but unhurt by her ordeal.

The attacker is described as white, 6ft 4in tall, of medium build and had a beard.

Det Insp Walker added: “We are asking the public for as much help as they can give us and we also ask that they remain vigilant as well.”
