SCHOOLCHILDREN in Brighouse had to be kept indoors while police searched for a man they said was violent yesterday.

At 1.20pm police were called to the Millroyd Island flats complex after the man allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.

He had pushed the woman to the ground while trying to grab the keys to her flat.

He then fled along the canal bank.

The man had been violent to police in the past, so officers tracked him with the West Yorkshire force's helicopter and told schools to keep pupils inside while the search was on.

A man was eventually arrested not far from the scene and was later questioned by police.
