Police are appealing for witnesses after men believed to be linked to a crime abandoned a crashed car on the M62 and fled in another vehicle.
Detectives want to hear from drivers who may have seen the men flee the Ford Mondeo on Monday afternoon.
It happened at 3.30pm at junction 27, near Birstall.
The Ford Mondeo which had been travelling in convoy with a Fiat Punto and a white Mercedes L200 came off the road on the entry slip of the M62 and crashed.
The male occupants abandoned the vehicle and fled in the Mercedes which then left the scene, heading east.
Officers are linking all three vehicles with an earlier incident of criminal damage in Cottingley Springs in which several caravans were damaged.
Det Insp Phil Jackson of Leeds District CID, said: “We are investigating an incident of criminal damage in Cottingley Springs and suspect some of the persons involved have crashed their car while trying to flee the scene.
“I am very keen to speak to anyone who saw the road traffic collision at junction 27 of the M62 and saw the persons in the car abandon the Mondeo and then get into the L200.
“We have recovered the Ford Mondeo and enquiries are ongoing into the criminal damage incident”
“Anyone who has information should contact Leeds District CID on 101 or the independent Crimestoppers charity, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.”
