AN OFFICER who was involved in the search for Shannon Matthews is in line for a top police award.

Sgt Steve Forrest of Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team could win the Community Police Officer of the Year title at the national Jane’s Police Review Gala Awards.

He has been nominated for his efforts to keep the Dewsbury Moor community together during the hunt for the kidnapped nine-year-old in February and March last year.

Sgt Forrest praised the community after receiving the nomination. He said: “The people of Dewsbury Moor and the community spirit they showed at the time are undoubtedly a huge factor.

“Without prompting, the residents came together, listened to what the police asked of them and helped throughout each day of her disappearance.”

Shannon’s mother Karen and fellow plotter Michael Donovan were jailed in January for eight years for kidnap, false imprisonment and perverting the course of justice.
