A CUSTOMER chased a thief who fled after stealing from a Moldgreen shop.
Police have now urged the man to come forward as he may have vital information about the crime - and they want to be sure he was not involved in any way.
The customer was chatting to staff at the One Stop Shop on Broad Lane, Moldgreen, after 10pm last night when the thief entered the shop.
After browsing around he suddenly grabbed a basket full of cigarettes from behind the counter and ran out.
The customer shouted at him and chased him outside - but never returned to the shop.
Det Con Steve Shaw, of Huddersfield CID, said: "The customer never came back and we would like him to come forward. It is important he contacts us."
The thief is a mixed race, chubby man aged about 25 and 6ft tall.
He wore a dark beenie-type hat with white on it, a tracksuit with white stripes on the sleeves and legs and a grey sweater or T-shirt.
The customer is a white man aged about 40 and he wore a yellow fluorescent jacket.
