POLICE are hunting a gang of thugs after a race attack in Kirklees.

The six or seven men, all masked, attacked a man in Upper Road, Batley, on February 2. The 49-year-old victim was walking home when he was surrounded by the gang near Trinity Church.

He was assaulted, suffering grazes and bruises to his head and body. The attackers were all described as of Asian ethnicity and in their 20s. One was distinctly smaller than the rest and all were wearing hoods, hats and scarves covering the lower portion of their faces.

Police have conducted enquiries in the area and are treating the matter as racially motivated.

Pc Chris Merrick of the Batley NPT, said: “Incidents of this nature are thankfully very rare in Batley and it is fortunate the victim was not more seriously injured in this cowardly attack.”
