PET owners are being put on high alert after a cat was shot in Skelmanthorpe.

The cat was hit in the face, close to its eye, by a pellet from an airgun on Saturday but has survived its injuries.

It has undergone surgery to have the pellet removed and is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident comes just a few weeks after a dead puppy was flung from a car in Shelley.

Officers from Kirkburton and Denby Dale Neighbourhood Policing Team are now warning pet owners to be vigilant.

They have been putting up posters to warn about a number of incidents and are appealing for information about any incidents of airguns being used.

Anyone with information can call the neighbourhood policing team on 01484 436898.
