Police investigating a crime in which an elderly Kirklees man was conned out of several thousand pounds have released an e-fit image of a man they want to speak to in connection with the offence.

The 86-year-old victim was having roofing work done at his property in The Villas, Howard Park, Cleckheaton.

Between 10.45am and 10.55am on Monday January 11, a man called claiming to work for the company doing the job. The victim let him in and, when the man said he needed to pay money up front for the work, handed over cash. The pensioner later spoke to the company doing the work but they said the man who called at his door was not one of their employees.

The suspect is described as an Asian or mixed race man, aged between 30 and 35, around 6ft tall, slim, with dark hair and beard. He was wearing a light-coloured raincoat.

PC Mark Jones, of Batley and Spen neighbourhood policing team, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who recognises the man pictured or who saw a man matching the suspect’s description in the Howard Park area around the time of this offence.

“Anyone with information is asked to call the Batley and Spen neighbourhood policing team via 101, quoting reference 13160014205.”

In unrelated investigations, police would like to speak to the people pictured in the image gallery below. The people pictured in the images may be witnesses as well as suspects. If you recognise anyone, contact police on 101 quoting the reference number on the image caption.
