A 4x4 vehicle stolen from Cowlersley could have been used in a ramraid on a Lindley village store.

Police have revealed that a blue Mitsubishi Shogun like the one used by a gang who stole a cash machine from the Sainsbury’s Local store in Acre Street was taken overnight between December 29 and 30 from a house at Manchester Road.

Between four and six men drove a similar vehicle through the window of the Lindley Sainsbury’s store last Wednesday night.

The gang made off also using a black Mercedes as their getaway car.

Police cordoned off the store in the centre of the village after the incident.

No-one was injured as the store was empty at the time.

Karen Pickering, who had been asleep upstairs with her partner Lee Livesey and their two young children, was awoken by the raid.

The shop has been hit twice by raiders in the past. In April this year a thug carrying a knife hit the store and just six days later robbers armed with knives stole cash.

Police enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Huddersfield CID on 0845 6060606 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
