A NEWLY qualified driver had to be taken to hospital after being forced into evasive action by a motorist on a mobile phone.

The 23-year-old woman required treatment after crashing her red Vauxhall Corsa into pedestrian traffic lights on Southgate in Huddersfield yesterday. She had turned right onto the ring road from St Peter’s Street at about 5.10pm when a grey Mini being driven by a woman on her phone veered towards her. The Mini drove off without stopping . The Corsa was written off and the 23-year-old suffered cuts and bruises. Police are appealing for witnesses.Call 01484 436847.
