A MURDER suspect is still on the run after a woman was strangled in Mirfield.

Nadija Ondzule, a 36-year-old Latvian, was found dead on Oddfellows Street on Tuesday evening.

A post mortem on Wednesday revealed she had died of strangulation.

West Yorkshire Police’s homicide and major enquiry team said the man suspected of carrying out the killing was believed to have fled abroad after the incident.

They have not revealed his identity or where he is believed to be.

But it is thought they know which country he is in and are in the process of obtaining a European arrest warrant in order to bring him in.

The murder inquiry had been launched on Tuesday night.

Police said officers had been called to a flat on Oddfellows Street “over concerns for the welfare of a woman.”

Her body was discovered shortly after 6.30pm that night.

Damon Auty, who runs the barber’s shop in nearby Nettleton Road, said Ms Ondzule had been into the shop with a man who had his hair cut.

He said: “They were together all the time. You couldn’t keep them apart.

“There’s usually no bother round here. It’s usually a quiet, boring street.”

Scenes of crime officers have spent the last three days at the flat searching for evidence.
