Police investigating the horrific crash which killed teenager Katelyn Dawson are preparing to send off a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Shelley College pupil Katelyn, 15, died after a grey BMW 5 Series mounted the pavement, crashing into a bus stop she was waiting at on Wakefield Road at Moldgreen on January 10.

The collision left Katelyn with fatal injuries, whilst also injuring a 17-year-old girl from the same school and 47-year-old Christine Crawshaw. The 51-year-old man driving the vehicle was also hurt.

Witnesses described the scene as “absolute carnage” and a police investigation was opened to determine what caused the crash.

West Yorkshire Police has now confirmed that nine months on, their investigation is coming to a close.

A spokesman said: "A file is being compiled which will be sent to the CPS in the near future."

The CPS will then evaluate the evidence and decide whether charges should be brought against the driver.

Katelyn's parents Colin and Angela have been left devastated by the crash and are still awaiting answers as to how their daughter died.

An inquest was opened just days after the crash but has been adjourned and is unlikely to be heard until a decision is made on whether legal proceedings will be launched.

Just two days after the incident, her family said in a statement: "We are devastated at the loss of our beautiful Katelyn and it is no exaggeration to say words cannot describe the pain we are all feeling.

"We want to thank those who have shown such love and support at this awful time and now ask that we are given some privacy to grieve as we try to come to terms with the magnitude of our loss."
