YOUNG people from across the Huddersfield area took the chance to show off their theatrical talents.

Splat - The Schools Police Liaison Arts Theatre - project offered young people between the ages of 11 and 14 the chance to work in a theatre environment with professionals to develop their skills.

The Splat project is in its fifth year and is supported by West Yorkshire Police Community Trust - the charitable arm of the Force - and the Community Safety Department.

The young people took part in various workshops of their choice, including costume design, acting, devising productions, lighting design and creating background music.

They then performed a 15-minute piece of drama on the theme of the festival, which was "Who, me? Why should I care?"

About 300 young people took part from 15 different schools in Kirklees, Wakefield and Leeds.

They included Howden Clough High School, Batley, Thornhill Community Science College, Dewsbury, and King James' High School, Almondbury.
