POLICE in West Yorkshire are stepping up operations against car thieves.
The force's Stolen Vehicle Squad is determined to deal with people suspected of involvement in all types of organised vehicle crime.
Crimes range from stealing high-powered vehicles and caravans to forging or stealing documents.
Several operations in recent days have led to more arrests.
A 26-year-old Bradford man has been charged with conspiracy to handle stolen cars. The case involves allegedly stolen or forged documents.
A man aged 36 from Fitzwilliam, near Pon- tefract, and a 29-year- old Normanton man were convicted at Leeds Crown Court on July 7 for conspiracy to handle stolen motor caravans.
A 38-year-old Pontefract man and a man aged 31 from Knottingley were each jailed for 18 months at the Leeds court for conspiracy to handle stolen vehicles with an estimated value in excess of £100,000.
Also at Leeds, 11 men have been charged with conspiracy to handle stolen goods following a number of burglaries where homes have been broken into and car keys stolen.
About 15 vehicles, with a value of around £300,000, have been recovered.
