A MAN badly hurt in an attack on a main Huddersfield road is in a stable condition in hospital.

The 34-year-old from Almondbury suffered serious head injuries in what may have been a road rage incident on Wakefield Road in Aspley at 3.10am yesterday.

He is in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and detectives were hoping to talk to him today.

A witness has told police he heard shouting and saw the victim with his hands on the bonnet of a white Vauxhall Astra.

Two men got out of the car and one punched the victim, who fell to the ground and is thought to have cracked his head on the road.

The men drove off.

People in a blue or black Lexus or Vauxhall Vectra car may have seen what happened and police have urged them to contact Huddersfield CID on 01484 436582.
