POLICE today warned troublesome youths across Huddersfield: We know where you are and what you are doing.

Officers have marked the start of 2007 with shift changes in a bid to catch more yobs on the prowl in the town.

And they have made their intentions clear on a new website which tells people where the known troublespots are and when they make arrests.

The website - www.wypnpt.org - pulls few punches on the information it gives out.

Insp David Glover, in charge of Huddersfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "Part of the website's aim is to show residents we take their complaints and the information they give us seriously and do something about it."

The initials wypnpt stand for West Yorkshire Police Neighbourhood Policing Teams.

The teams have now changed the way they work, to give seven-day policing.

Each team has split into two teams to do so. Each area used to have one team, working six days on and four off.

There was an increase in car crime in Crosland Moor over Christmas.

There has also been trouble with youths causing problems in the Blackmoorfoot Road and Nabcroft Lane areas.

The police are working with Kirklees Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Unit and several youths have been given Anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) contracts promising to behave.

If they break the contracts they face getting a full Asbo.

If they break an Asbo they could end up in custody.

Newsome has a problem with truancy.

Police will take youngsters found out of school straight to headteachers - and the pupils' parents could also find themselves in trouble.

Insp Glover warned: "It is the parents' responsibility to ensure their children attend school and remain there during the day.

"Fines and court summons can be issued to parents whose children continue to play truant."

Police also know of reports of possible drug-dealing on footpaths between Close Hill Lane at Taylor Hill and Lockwood Scar.

Insp Glover added: "Youths are reminded that it is still an offence to possess cannabis.

"Officers can carry out stop and searches on youths who they believe are in possession of any controlled substance."

In Lepton police have referred seven youngsters to Kirklees's Anti Social Behaviour Unit for loutish behaviour.

Over the next three months Pc Mike Wroe has a special task, to tackle anti-social behaviour in Lepton.

On December 28 police caught a Netherthong youth etching on a bus shelter window in Holmfirth.

He was arrested and bailed pending further inquiries.

A day later a youth was detained on suspicion of burglary and damaging cars on Woodhead Road in Holmfirth.

He has also been bailed pending further inquiries.

Insp Glover added: "The website shows that we are taking action and sorting out those troublemakers who make life a misery for law-abiding citizens."
