Police are warning people to hide their car keys following a spate of so-called Hanoi burglaries.

A string of burglaries, where homes are broken into to steal car keys and drive off in the vehicles, have taken place within a few days last week.

Now police have urged Kirklees residents to be vigilant after a specific area was targeted in Cleckheaton.

Overnight from October 15 into October 16 a Ford Focus was stolen from a property in Foldings Parade.

On nearby Foldings Road thieves broke into an address and stole a Toyota Yaris.

Then on Foldings Grove an attempt was made to take a Toyota Yaris parked on a driveway.

On October 14 a Ford Fiesta was taken from an address in Foldings Avenue.

Close by on Carver Street, an insecure property was entered to steal electrical equipment and cash.

In several of the cases, homes were left insecure and police are urging householders to ensure that their windows and doors are locked at night.

Residents can also prevent similar burglaries by making sure their car keys are removed from sight on an evening, perhaps taken upstairs.

Extra patrols are now in place in the area and locals are urged to call police if they witnessed any of the break-ins or see anything suspicious in the meantime.

Kirklees CID can be contacted via 101.
