POLICE had to use CS gas on a man who resisted them after he attacked his former girlfriend.

Colin Watson, 32, of Lockwood, told Huddersfield magistrates he had a problem with alcohol, amphetamines and anger management.

He admitted dragging Michaela McClelland back into her house on Neale Road in Lockwood after the couple argued in the street about a DVD.

Watson pleaded guilty to assault and resisting a police officer.

Prosecuting solicitor Mrs Rosie Hinchliff said the police were called, but Watson would not let them into the house and held the door shut.

In the end police sprayed CS gas in his face and managed to get in.

But he resisted them until they could arrest him and put him in a police van.

He had an epileptic fit in the van.

The couple have since split up.

The court was told Watson was now taking medication for his drink problem.

The case was adjourned for a pre-sentence report.

The magistrates told him they were looking at a community penalty that would address his anger, along with his alcohol and amphetamine use.

He was granted unconditional bail. He will appear before the magistrates again on June 28.
