MORE than 300,000 pensioners have signed up for a new bus pass due to be introduced in West Yorkshire.

The new passes will come into force on April 1 and will give people over 60 free off-peak travel throughout the country.

Clr Ryk Downes said: “Demand has been high since Metro started its publicity campaign in July and we are still receiving application forms.

“Our advice is if you are eligible and you haven’t ordered your new pass yet, do it now.”

Most people who have already applied for their passes should receive them by mid-March. Those applying after April 1 will have a three-week wait, while the current pass is phased out.
