LUCKY Almondbury couple Steven Wigley and Suzanne Foster are the winners of a £1,000 holiday in Portugal in the first week of the Examiner's Bid to Win competition.
The competition runs throughout September, with great prizes each week - culminating in the presentation of a Peugeot 206 car.
The holiday will be a welcome break for Steven, 38, and Suzanne, 28, a childminder, as otherwise they would not have had a holiday for three years.
Steven, an engineer at Holset, Turnbridge, said: "We are saving up to get married in Jamaica in January, 2005.
"We did not have a holiday last year or this year - and were not planning one next year either.
"Winning this is fantastic."
The couple, of Almondbury Bank, will be staying for a week at Praia Da Oura, in a self-catering, beachside apartment on the Algarve.
They can take the break, supplied by Direct Holidays, between May and October next year.
The couple won the holiday after bidding £100,000 worth of coupons from the Examiner in the competition.
Steven said: "We get the Examiner every night and friends and family helped collect the coupons.
"My mother, Vera, who lives in Honley, also takes the Examiner and got her friends and neighbours collecting the coupons.
"My brother Keith also collected them for us."
People still have time to enter the competition, even if you haven't started yet.
Lots of coupons are still to appear in the Examiner throughout September. They will also be appearing in the Weekly News.
Coupons can be obtained from the internet (www.ichuddersfield.co.uk) and will be awarded with any private sale, family notice, merchandise or photo sales booked at the Examiner office in Queen Street South, or through any holiday booked with Examiner Travel in September.
Prizes coming up are: A Dyson vacuum cleaner, Karcher pressure washer, Asda trolley dash, and a lunch date with Town manager Peter Jackson and Examiner chief soccer writer Mel Booth.
