POSTMASTERS celebrated after their branches were spared the axe.

Savile Town and Thornhill Edge post offices have both been threatened with closure in the last few months.

But the Post Office reversed both decisions following campaigns by residents, councillors and Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik.

Thornhill Edge sub-postmaster Una Robinson said: “Mr Malik’s support was invaluable. Both myself and the whole community are absolutely delighted at the decision to keep our branch open. We truly appreciate his efforts and we know he worked his socks off along with the rest of the community.”

Savile Town postmaster Abdul Patel added: “People in both Savile Town and Thornhill Edge can feel proud that we’ve got a true fighter on our side.”
