SCHOOLS are being urged to take part in a fundraising poster competition.

The competition is being run by the Children 4 Children appeal, a group run by Home Start for teenagers at Coule Royd in Dalton. It teaches parenting skills, new skills and offers help with qualifications.

Two Huddersfield University students, Joanne Duval and Maureen McLachlan, are running an appeal for the group to raise funds to improve the meeting room and make it more child-friendly.

Both women are students on the university’s Early Years Primary Education course.

For 50p each, pupils can design a seasonal poster and submit it to their teachers before April 1.

The winning design will be chosen to go on a new baby-safe radiator guard in the Coule Royd premises.

Maureen said: “We went on a placement to the centre and they do great work, but they are a charity and they don’t have the money to make the building as good as it should be.”

Huddersfield University departments will print the winning design and make the radiator cover.

Winners will receive prizes donated by local businesses at party at Huddersfield University Student Union on April 29. They include tickets to The Zone at St Andrew’s Road, cinema tickets, Huddersfield Town tickets, art sets and computer software.
