POTTERY students have illustrated the history of the world in just 12 panels.

Eighty people worked on the mural tracing the evolution of life on Earth.

Sue Jenkins, who teaches pottery at Holmfirth Adult Education Centre, is proud of her students’ efforts.

“I’m really chuffed with what they have done. It’s very pretty and bright,” she said.

Sue’s six classes have spent the last term-and-a-half working on the mural, which will be officially unveiled at the centre by Colne Valley MP Jason McCartney tomorrow.

She said: “We decided to do the mural on evolution to mark the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s birth. There are 12 panels going through from primordial soup to spacemen.”

The potters have also installed a display about Alice in Wonderland at Holmfirth Tourist Information Centre.

The exhibition marks Adult Learners Week, which starts on Saturday.

Kirklees College will run information events at the Packhorse Centre on Tuesday from 10am to 4pm and outside Dewsbury Town Hall from 10am to 4pm the following day.
