THOUSANDS of people were affected by a power cut in Huddersfield this morning.

Just before 9am the power went off to 2,533 properties in the area with Crosland Moor, Thornton Lodge and Newsome all affected.

It is believed a high-voltage cable fault meant the loss of power.

Tha vast majority of homes and businesses had power restored at 9.56am, with 53 properties still being off.

YEDL workers are attempting to fix the problem this afternoon.
