MILITARY historian John Rumsby will give an illustrated talk on the history of the Anglo-Indian army, at the Bagshaw Museum, Batley.

It will cover the history of the army from its origins as a mercenary force employed by the British East India Company to its major role in the Second World War and the defeat of fascist Germany, Italy and Japan.

Mr Rumsby will speak at the museum in Wilton Park on Sunday August 1 from 2pm to 4pm.

He said:

"It should never be forgotten that Britain could not have defeated Germany and Japan without the tremendous effort made by Indian servicemen and women, many of whose descendants now live in Kirklees."
