A HEALTH scheme to help families with IVF treatment has been praised - again.

Calderdale Royal Hospital's Assisted Conception Unit has been awarded the Charter Mark Standard for Excellence in customer service delivery for the second time.

The Charter Mark recognises the unit's efforts in providing couples from the Calderdale and Huddersfield area with the best possible treatment and facilities.

David Calderwood, a spokesman for the Calderdale and Huddersfield Trust, said: "Continuous feedback from patients through questionnaires and focus groups has enabled the unit to maintain such a high standard of customer service in a particularly sensitive service area.

"The unit had to undergo rigorous assessment to gain the Charter Mark, submitting a detailed report confirming that required criteria were being met.

"In addition, an assessor visited the Unit to see the criteria being put into practice."

Results for the unit between October 2003 to September 2004 were again rated as "excellent".

A total of 283 treatment cycles were completed across the range of services including IVF and they saw a 6% increase in the number of successful births as a result of treatment cycles.
