A PRAYER vigil for world peace was held outside Huddersfield Library.

People of many faiths joined in with the prayers despite heavy rain on Saturday.

The Rev Leslie Pinfield, secretary of Huddersfield Interfaith Council, led the prayers with people from the Muslim, Hindu, Quaker and Baha’i faiths.

He said: “We’re all praying and working for peace in our various faiths.

“Once a year we try and do something as part of a week of prayers for world peace in October.

“It was raining, but some people out shopping stopped to listen.”

HIC includes people from at least seven different faiths – Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, Quaker and Sikh.
