BE afraid, be very afraid a Viking invasion is set to hit Huddersfield this weekend!

A troop of fearsome Vikings from the famous Jorvik York Viking Centre will invade the town on Saturday as part of a summer Viking Invasion Tour of the North.

The Vikings will descend upon the streets of Huddersfield from 10.30am to 3pm, providing a day of fun entertainment for shoppers and families - including a dramatic battle with two local girls and boys' football teams.

The Vikings will kick off proceedings at 10.30am with a colourful procession, going from Macaulay Street, down the High Street, into Ramsden Street, through the Piazza Centre (round the library and Art Gallery), into Victoria Lane, Market Avenue, New Street, Imperial Arcade and into Market Street. They will stop at Macaulay Street and will set up camp and demonstrate the skills of Viking combat.

To add to the fun, the Vikings will be go into battle with junior footballers from Norristhorpe Junior FC and Norristhorpe Junior Bees FC (girls' team). The boys and girls from the Under 9s, Under 10s and Under 11s will try and square up to the ancient warriors!

Events are free and open to all.
