A FORMER Huddersfield lecturer has received an MBE from the Queen.

Ron Marlor, of Old Lindley, near Holywell Green, visited Buckingham Palace to collect his award with wife Marion.

The award, announced in the New Year's Honours, was for services to education.

Mr Marlor studied education at Leeds University and started lecturing at Huddersfield Technical College in 1963. He retired in 2003.

He has also been a governor at Cliffe Hill School, Lightcliffe, as well as chairing the governing body for 29 years. He has also been a judge in the National Teaching Awards since 1999.

Mr and Mrs Marlor have three sons, Richard, Paul and John, and three grandchildren.
