A WOMAN who took heroin into jail for her husband so he could repay a prison debt has failed in a bid to win a cut in her sentence.

Linda Seery, 45, of Trafalgar Close, Brackenhall, was jailed for 30 months at Leeds Crown Court in January after pleading guilty to possessing heroin with intent to supply.

But at the Appeal Court in London yesterday, Lord Justice Hooper, sitting with Mr Justice Walker and Sir John Alliott refused to cut her sentence.

They dismissed arguments that it was `manifestly excessive'.

The judge said a phone conversation between Seery and her husband in June last year had been monitored.

As a result of the call prison officers searched Seery as she entered the jail to visit her husband.

The search revealed five wraps of heroin.

When questioned, Seery said her husband had made her bring the drugs in.

She said he was in danger in prison and had been going to use heroin as 'currency' to get out of trouble.

Seery's lawyers argued that her sentence had been `manifestly excessive'.

They also said the trial judge had not taken enough account of Seery's guilty plea.

But dismissing the appeal Lord Justice Hooper said: "There can be no possibility of suspending this sent- ence.

"The sentence of 30 months was entirely appropriate and this appeal is dismissed."
