SPEED nut Julian Stancliffe has won himself a piece of automotive power – in a competition he didn’t realise he’d entered!

Julian, 41, of Netherthong, scooped a 150mph Mitsubishi Evo V from insurance company Swinton after ringing for a quote.

Despite declining Swinton’s offer, electrician Mr Stancliffe was drawn from 44,000 entries of people who had contacted the company for a quote to win the 276hp Japanese monster car.

As a new dad, Julian had to trade a line of hot hatchbacks – including high powered Vauxhalls – for a slightly more sensible Subaru Forester 4x4.

But now he can rekindle his passion for speed with the rally-inspired saloon – but not with his family on board!

He said: “I won’t be racing around in it because I’m a family man now. I’m a bit past my boy-racer days.

“Kirklees roads aren’t the best so I won’t be testing it there, but hopefully I’ll be taking it on a few track days.

“I’ve always liked a bit of power – I’ve never had a sensible car.”

He added: “I’ve paid enough insurance over the years so it’s nice to get something back. I didn’t realise I would be automatically entered and then I got a call ... and I was amazed.”

Julian also picked up one year’s free insurance, £2,000 to spend on modifications and a bouquet of flowers for wife Sarah.

The couple have a 10-month-old son, Lewis.
