THIEVES stole charity cash after breaking into a Huddersfield town centre shop.

Two men wearing hoodies forced open the shutter to the door at tattoo and body piercing shop Pro Body in the Imperial Arcade.

They made off with about £150 in charity cash from a plastic tube.

The incident, which happened at about 1.50am on Monday last week, was picked up on CCTV, although the figures are dark and indistinct.

Shop owner Richard Evans said the money was being raised for Smile Train, a charity which pays for operations to repair hair lips and cleft palates in children in developing countries.

Mr Evans said he hoped the thieves would return the money when they realised what it was for.

“We have been supporting the charity for several years and helped to fund a number of operations,” he said.

“It is a pity that the money was taken because £150 would pay for an operation which could transform a child’s life.”
