A NEW scheme designed to conserve ancient woodlands and grasslands has been launched in West Yorkshire.

Waste Recycling Environmental (WREN) introduced the £10m UK Biodiversity initiative earlier this month in a bid to conserve West Yorkshire’s Woodlands for future generations.

The scheme, named WREN Biodiversity Action Fund (BAF), has been launched to support the UK Biodiversity Plan (UK BAP), which has already spent over £12.8m on more than 1,000 biodiversity projects.

Peter Cox, Managing Director of WREN, said: “We are extremely excited to be launching WREN’s first biodiversity fund.

“Conserving biodiversity in a changing climate is something on everyone’s mind.

“None of us can afford to ignore the real threats facing the eco- systems that keep us alive.”

BAF will provide funding to enhance UK BAP by supporting the expansion, recovery and conservation of priority habitats through specific improvements over the next five years.

Mr Cox added: “With £10m being donated through grants all over the country we know that BAF will make a serious contribution towards the UK BAP targets.”
