COUNCILLORS have promised parents they will try to standardise school terms.

The Cabinet set dates for 2009/10 and 2010/11 yesterday.

But members agreed to make changes if necessary to bring the district in line with the rest of Yorkshire and the North-East.

All the councils in the region are trying to standardise term dates.

Kirklees Council leader Clr Robert Light said: “This is something I’ve been requesting for 20 years.

“It really does cause huge problems for parents when you’ve got different school holidays in neighbouring councils.

“This is really important to people.”

In 2009/10 the winter term in Kirklees will run from September 1 to December 18, with half-term from October 26 and October 30.

Spring term begins on January 4 and finishes on April 1, with half-term from February 15 to 19.

Summer term starts on April 19 and ends on July 21; half-term is between May 31 and June 4.

In 2010/11 winter term starts on September 1 and runs through to December 17, with half-term between October 25 and October 29.

Spring term starts on January 4 and finishes on April 15; half-term is from February 21 to February 25.

Summer term will run from May 3 to July 21, with half-term from May 30 to June 3.
