PROTESTORS rallied outside Huddersfield Town Hall last night against public spending cuts.

Around 20 people, including members of the Kirklees branch of the trade union Unison, demonstrated before the council meeting.

Kirklees plans to cut 1,500 jobs to deal with the public spending squeeze.

Carol Alexis, who works at JobCentre Plus on Market Street, was among the protestors. The Public and Commercial Services member was on strike yesterday against cuts to her pension.

Ms Alexis said: “I’ve come down here to show my solidarity with Unison.”
