PROTESTERS will tomorrow demand that a factory with disabled workers stays open.
Huddersfield Trades Union Council has organised a rally against the plan to close the factory in Waterloo.
Remploy, which has 54 factories across the UK, employs hundreds of people with physical and learning disabilities in the region. The factories include one at Tandem Industrial Estate in Waterloo, which makes headrests for motor vehicles and employs 35 people.
Huddersfield Trades Union Council will protest against the plan outside Huddersfield Town Hall from 4.15pm tomorrow, in the run-up to the monthly Kirklees Council meeting.
Secretary Bob Stoker said: “Remploy being the largest and oldest employer of disabled people in Britain is not only a workplace but a way of life for thousands of disabled people.
“It is so important for Kirklees to back the campaign to keep open the Huddersfield factory and save 34 jobs.”
